FERMENTER

To improve fermentation yield, pH and oxygen are measured and controlled. And, concentration of the nutrient medium is also to be measured. Now the feed of the nutrients can be controlled by the concentration measurement. This will maintain optimal conditions for the growth rate of the cells.

CRYSTALLIZER

The concentration of the supersaturated liquid is measured with ThinProbe device. The crystal growth is driven by the supersaturation, which depends on dissolved material and temperature. A refractometer measures only what is dissolved, independent of crystal content. Hence, this measurement makes it possible to control crystal size and shape.

The rubbing by the crystals keeps the prism clean. No need for prism wash.

DRUG DEVELOPMENT

The time needed for the FDA Drug Development Process can be shortened by measuring liquid concentrations. It goes for Both Step 1 Discovery and Development and Step 2 Preclinical Research, where  the PolyChrome device provides real time measurement data. It eliminates time-consuming waiting for laboratory results.

SINGLE USE

In a single-use vessel, the wetted part of a measurement instrument has to be sterilized in an autoclave, or by gamma radiation. Most electronics do not stand up this srerilization treatment and must be separable from the probe. The Polychrome device is essentially split into two sections, the electronics housing and the probe, allowing for separation and sterilization of the probe.

The probe may be connected to a bellows & sterile connector assembly, and the two are autoclaved together.

AutoclavablePrinciples

AUTOCLAVABLE

The PolyChrome can easily be divided into a sterilizable probe and an electronics housing, because the information exchange between them is by two optical fibers.

The two separated parts are each closed by a mirror. When the parts are united, the optical signals are transmitted through the windows.

Principles

EXPROOF INSTRUMENTATION

In the PolyChrome, the optics and the electronics can be separated. Hence the optics can be installed in a hazardous area, but the electronics must be in a safe area. The communication between them is handled by two optical fibers. The only electronical part in the probe tip is a Pt1000 temperature element. To limit the voltage, current, and power to the connected Pt1000 in the hazardous area, a Zener Barrier (≈ $200) must be used.
